Inspired by the book, stage and film adaptation, In Deconstruction Zone students delve into the novel Flora and Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo and explore it from different perspectives. This is a unique master class for acting, directing and playwriting skills. In class, participants perform scenes, devise new material and dive into character development. Perfect for actors, writers and creative thinkers who want to explore the dangerous world of growing up. This program culminates with a performance showcase for friends and families on the final day of class.
About Flora & Ulysses
Flora and Ulysses begins, as the best superhero stories do, with a tragic accident that has unexpected consequences. The squirrel never saw the vacuum cleaner coming, but self-described cynic Flora Belle Buckman, who has read every issue of the comic book Terrible Things Can Happen to You!, is the just the right person to step in and save him. What neither can predict is that Ulysses (the squirrel) has been born anew, with powers of strength, flight, and misspelled poetry—and that Flora will be changed too, as she discovers new possibilites.
lthough some previous experience with Flora and Ulysses (book and/or film) is helpful, it is not necessary for participation in the class. Copies of the book will be available to all participants in Deconstruction Zone.
