Childsplay is partnering with Rising Youth Theatre (RYT) to participate in Young Playwrights for Change, a nationwide playwriting competition sponsored by The American Alliance for Theatre and Education (AATE) and Theatre for Young Audiences USA (TYAUSA). The project looks to harness the creativity of young playwrights to produce meaningful conversations throughout classrooms, schools and communities across the country.
Childsplay and Rising Youth Theatre are sponsoring a regional playwriting competition for 6th – 8th grade students, writing 10 minute plays about CHANGE. One play will be selected from the regional competition to be submitted to the national competition. The winning playwright of the national competition (announced March 16, 2016) will have their play presented in a professionally staged reading at the Kennedy Center for TYAUSA’s One Theatre World Pre-conference on May 5, 2016.
Submissions for the Regional Competition are being accepted through December 1, 2015. Plays should be submitted to ssullivan@childsplayaz.org. Word & Adobe PDF formats are acceptable. Included in the submission should be participant name, parent/guardian’s name, participant grade level and a contact email address.
