Behind the Scenes of The Boy Who Loved Monsters & the Girl Who Loved Peas!

The Playwright's Inspiration:

"To begin with, I wrote this play to entertain my family. My wife, son, daughter, and I read the first draft around the dining room table, and they enjoyed the ways the play echoed our life together as well as the funny surprises the monster brought to an otherwise normal family. Entertaining Jennie, Ben and Lizzy was satisfying by itself, but as we read together, I thought maybe I could make the play in to something that lots of families could enjoy together. My family encouraged me to keep working on it, as it seemed to them more fun and interesting than the plays for grownups I was working on at the time, and they were probably right about that." - Jonathan Graham

A Director's Vision:

Director Dwayne Hartford was inspired by a child’s imagination for the overall design of this show. With “caddywhompus” shaped furniture, funky colors and even Monster wallpaper, this set is meant to capture a young child’s perspective of the world. The costume designs are bright and colorful to fit the world that Hartford envisioned.
