Childsplay Summer Academy 2010

Class Registration - Online registration begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, February 13, phone registration begins at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 16.
Extended CareExtended Care Registration
Location - All classes are held at the Sybil B. Harrington Campus for Imagination and Wonder, 900 S. Mitchell Drive, Tempe, 85281
Sharings - Each class will have a sharing for families on the last day of class.
Cancellation Policy - Payment is due at the time of registration.  Registrations are final and there are no refunds.
Note - Childsplay staff is unable to administer any medications to program participants, including EpiPens.
 

Musical Theatre Marathon

A musical a week!  This class will focus on singing, dancing and acting while rehearsing a condensed version of a popular musical to share with family on the last day of class.

The Deep Blue Sea
Using movement, music and beginning acting skills, we’ll explore stories like Rainbow Fish, The Little Mermaid, and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.

Fractured Fairytales
What if the Three Bears were home when Goldilocks came knocking? Explore your favorite fairytales … with a twist… while developing acting skills.

Experience the hilarious adventures and the unique wisdom of the fascinating Mrs. Piggle Wiggle. We’ll visit her upside down house and learn how she is able to cure the neighborhood children of all their bad habits.

The Story of a Midsummer Night’s Dream

Join in the retelling of this classic tale. Our version is fun and magical, while using playful language inspired by William Shakespeare.

Story Drama: Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Using Jeff Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, we’ll create our own funny stories about Greg and his family and friends.

Script Detectives
Work with scene partners to explore characterization, dialogue, relationships and other acting skills.

The Curious World of Roald Dahl
Using the works of Roald Dahl, such as The BFG, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and James and the Giant Peach, we’ll develop acting skills while exploring scenes and characters from the books.

On Stage! Musical Theatre I
Seussical Jr.
Directors: Katie McFadzen and Dwayne Hartford
This is your opportunity to perform! This introductory class will include vocal exercises, choreographed movement and characterization activities, while we rehearse a musical. The final week of class will be held at the Tempe Performing Arts Center, 132 E. Sixth Street, where two performances will be held on June 25.

On Stage!: Play Production
Miss Nelson is Missing

This is your opportunity to perform! This class focuses on acting skills, character development, and movement techniques, leading the production of a play. The final week of class will be held at the Tempe Performing Arts Center, 132 E. Sixth Street, where two performances will be held on July 30.

On Stage! Musical Theatre II
Honk Jr.
Directors: Scott Withers and Jodie Weiss
This is your opportunity to perform! This intermediate class is for students who have prior musical theatre experience. We will work on vocal exercises, choreographed movement and characterization activities, while rehearsing a musical. The final week of class will be held at the Tempe Performing Arts Center, 132 E. Sixth Street, where two performances will be held on July 2.

Deconstruction Zone
This class is based on the popular Shakespeare Collision class from the past several summers. Students will focus on Arthur Miller's classic American play The Crucible, creating their own writings, improvisations, and scene work inspired by this dramatization of the infamous Salem Witch Trials.

On Stage! Musical Theatre III
Songs for a New World by Jason Robert Brown

Performances: 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday, August 6
his is your opportunity to perform! This is an advanced class for students who have prior musical theatre experience. This unique class offers students the opportunity to work with a professional director, choreographer and musical director on both skill building and the production of a musical. Students will also be writing pieces developed in class that will help connect and weave the songs in the piece together. The final week of class will be held at the Tempe Performing Arts Center, 132 E. Sixth Street, where two performances will be held on August 6 at 2:00 p.m. and 7 p.m.
